Birds Of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) (2020)

Birds of Prey

In this film of the DC Extended Universe, the newly single Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie, The Wolf of Wall Street, Focus, I, Tonya) had everything the audience can ever ask for in her own solo outing. She has charisma, knows how to break a fourth wall and she surprises all DC comic book fans like no one else.

Birds of Prey is also a follow up film to 2016’s Suicide Squad, where Margot debut her role as the popular iconic DC character.

I also admire Ewan McGregor’s (Trainspotting, Star Wars prequel trilogy) as the crime boss, Black Mask, based on the DC comics.

The film has non-stop action, great comedy and amazing references based on the DC Universe.

It has great casting choices like Margot Robbie, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jurnee Smollet-Bell, Rosie Perez, Chris Messina, Ella Jay Basco, Ali Wong and Ewan McGregor.

My score out of 10 for this film is 9.1/10.

Sonic The Hedgehog (2020)

Sonic The Hedgehog

Sonic the Hedgehog is a live-action film based on the video game franchise of the titled character created by Sega.

I do admire Ben Schwartz’s voice-over performance as the fast-running hedgehog and Jim Carrey’s (Mask, Mr. Popper’s Penguins) performance as the villainous Dr. Robotnik.

Also, I find it interesting that James Marsden stars in another live-action with an animated character like he did in Hop (2011).

The film has great action, charismatic comedy and accurate special effects particularly Sonic’s design.

The film has good casting choices like Ben Schwartz, Jim Carrey, James Marsden and Tika Sumpter.

My score out of 10 for this film is 8.6/10.

Bad Boys For Life (2020)

Bad Boys for Life

Bad Boys For Life is an action film worth watching and it is the best of the Bad Boys film series. It is the third film of the franchise after Bad Boys (1995) and Bad Boys II (2003).

I had always admired the comedic performances of Will Smith (Hancock, Men in Black) and Martin Lawrence (Open Season, The Beach Bum) as the two detectives in the film series.

The film is action-packed, humorous and it proves itself to have a mix of drama and excitement.

The film has good casting choices like Will Smith, Martin Lawrence, Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Charles Melton, Paolo Núñez, Kate del Castillo, Nicky Jam and Joe Pantoliano.

My score out of 10 for this film is 9.3/10.

The Gentlemen (2020)

The Gentlemen

The Gentleman is my first film to review in 2020 and it is a good example to start my third year of my film reviewing career.

This will be a big hit with all Guy Ritchie fans, returning to his popular British gangster style film making.

I do admire the cast performances, particularly Matthew McConaughey (Sing, Tropic Thunder), Charlie Hunnam (Pacific Rim) and Hugh Grant (Paddington 2, The Man From U.N.C.L.E), and Guy Ritchie’s direction of the film like he directed Snatch (2000), Sherlock Holmes (2009) and live action remake of Aladdin (2019).

The film has great action, hilarious comedy and a compelling amount of storytelling.

The film has amazing casting choices including Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam, Henry Golding, Michelle Dockery, Jeremy Strong, Eddie Marsan, Collin Farrell and Hugh Grant.

My score out of 10 for this film is 8.9/10.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019)

Star Wars - The Rise of Skywalker

What I believe in my film reviewing career, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is the most promising and exciting film worth watching. As a Star Wars fan, I am delighted that this film pleased the other fans after the many frustrations on Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017).

It is the third film of the Star Wars sequel trilogy and the final instalment of the Skywalker saga. It’s like they said, “the saga will end, but the story lives forever.”

The Resistance along with Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega), Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) and their friends are ready to battle Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and the dreaded First Order for one last time.

I loved how the film brings the saga together by revealing references from some of the old films.

The film is very action-packed, with amazing special effects, masterpiece music by legendary John Williams and solid character development.

The film has awesome casting choices including, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Anthony Daniels as C-3PO, Naomi Ackie, Domhnall Gleeson, Richard E. Grant, Lupita Nyong’o, Keri Russell, Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca, Kelly Marie Tran, Ian McDiarmid and Billy Dee Williams.

My score out of 10 for this film is 10/10.

Jumanji: The Next Level (2019)

Jumanji - The Next Level

It has been over a year since I saw the previous Jumanji film , which is Welcome to the Jungle (2017), and this time I review this more action-packed, more hilarious instalment of the Jumanji film series.

The film brings out new levels, new threats in the Jumanji game and more jokes.

I love how the cast, from the last film, return for this film and then introduce newcomers.

The film is full of action, humor and special effects.

It has the returning cast members such as Dwayne Johnson,  Jack Black, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan and Nick Jonas. The film also introduces Awkwafina, Danny Glover and Danny DeVito.

My score out of 10 for this film is 9.4/10.

Terminator: Dark Fate (2019)

Terminator Dark Fate

Terminator: Dark Fate does know how to revive the Terminator franchise and becomes one of the best instalments in the series. The film is the sixth instalment of the film franchise.

I’d loved it when two of the original cast members return for the film, Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor and Arnold Schwarzenegger as T-800 “Model 101”. It also introduces new characters.

I also find it interesting that the director of the film is Tim Miller, who directed Deadpool (2016), and the producer is James Cameron, who was the director of the first and second Terminator films, Avatar (2009), Titanic (1997) and Aliens (1986).

The film is well action-packed, violent and has amazing special effects.

The film has great casting choices like Linda Hamilton, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mackenzie Davis, Natalia Reyes and Gabriel Luna.

My score out of 10 for this film is 8.5/10.

Joker (2019)

Joker

I think this is the darkest DC film ever made and it is a great one.

The film tells the story about a stand up comedian named Arthur Fleck before he becomes the Clown Prince of Crime in Gotham City.

I give huge praise for Joaquin Phoenix’s (Gladiator, You Were Never Really Here) performance as one of DC’s greatest supervillains. I also like the performances of Robert De Niro (The Godfather Part II, Goodfellas) and Zazie Beetz (Deadpool 2).

The Joker film is dark, comedic and has excellent character development.

The film has great casting choices like Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz and Frances Conroy.

My score out of 10 for this film is 9.2/10.

Ad Astra (2019)

Ad Astra

I think I find the film a bit underwhelming and the plot is rather pointless. That film did not “uplift” my expectations to be honest.

Ad Astra is a science fiction drama film involving astronauts and planetary missions.

Although, I give praise to Brad Pitt’s performance as the main astronaut.

The film has good casting choices including Brad Pitt, Tommy Lee Jones, Ruth Negga, Liv Tyler and Donald Sutherland.

My score out of 10 for this film is 7.6/10.

It: Chapter Two (2019)

It Chapter Two

It: Chapter Two is one of the scariest horror films I have seen. The film is the sequel to 2017’s successful predecessor, both films are based on Stephen King’s 1986 novel.

The film takes place 27 years after the first film where the losers club have grown up and are ready, once again, to face the evil clown, Pennywise (Bill Skarsgård).

I find it interesting that this is the second film that James McAvoy and Jessica Chastain had worked together since X-Men: Dark Phoenix. Bill Hader (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Inside Out) also provides comic relief in the film.

The film has great scares, visual effects and story-telling.

The film has good casting choices like, Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, Bill Hader, Isaiah Mustafa, Jay Ryan, James Ransone, Andy Bean and Bill Skarsgård.

My score out of 10 for this film is 8.4/10.
